Living a Life of PRAISE

Family Time

Today was beautiful so we decided to have a family picnic at the park after the gym. It was fun packing our cooler as Kaylee kept saying, “First we’re going to the gym and then FAMILY PICNIC!” On the way home from the park I started thinking how content and grateful I was for our life. I use to run here and there trying to find some purpose in my day. I would fill it up with play dates, coffee dates, and lunch dates. These things are great but lately I’ve been enjoying just being with my family. They’re my number one.

I’ve been disturbed lately as I saw on the Today Show yesterday how 1 in 4 marriages will deal with infidelity. Just the thought of that terrifies me because no one is safe from that happening. I’ve recently seen people slip back into old behaviors that have torn their marriage apart. These people admit to not putting their family first which is what caused a downward spiral that only led to destruction. This is why I believe you can’t safeguard your marriage enough. Matt and I will continue to argue and fight and struggle for as long as we live if it helps us DEAL with issues. I see so many couples who ignore serious behaviors that only get pushed under the mat and eventually the mat can’t even cover them up. It’s the whole “Behind Closed Doors” thing. If we would allow people to know what goes on in us then there would be so much accountability that we couldn’t run the opposite way if we wanted because so many people would be after us.

I don’t believe relapses happen over night. It always begins in the head and if its not talked about, checked on, and most importantly the person isn’t honest then relapse is a guarantee. Anything that is hidden in the dark will only lead to pain and isolation and turmoil. Whats more disturbing is the weight of that sin. Anything that comes between God and ourselves is sin. We can’t give people all of us in a relationship-whether marriage or friendship or family-if we’re not coming clean. We’re only faking it and what we think we’re hiding, others will catch on to it.

…HE WILL BRING TO LIGHT WHAT IS HIDDEN IN DARKNESS AND WILL EXPOSE THE MOTIVES OF MENS HEARTS… (1 Corinthians 4:5)

BUT EVERYTHING EXPOSED FROM THE LIGHT BECOMES VISIBLE, FOR IT IS LIGHT THAT MAKES EVERYTHING VISIBLE. THIS IS WHY IT IS SAID:
“WAKE UP, O SLEEPER,
RISE FROM THE DEAD,
AND CHRIST WILL SHINE ON YOU.” (Ephesians 5:14)

The cool thing about the word EXPOSE is that its good. Yes, it can be painful but its what leads to growth. I found this scripture in The Message:

FIERCE TROUBLES CAME DOWN ON THE PEOPLE OF THOSE CHURCHES, PUSHING THEM TO THE VERY LIMIT. THE TRIAL EXPOSED THEIR TRUE COLORS: THEY WERE INCREDIBLY HAPPY, THOUGH DESPERATELY POOR. THE PRESSURE TRIGGERED SOMETHING TOTALLY UNEXPECTED: AN OUTPOURING OF PURE AND GENEROUS GIFTS. (2 Corinthians 8:1)

Good can come from our pain or our secrets if we give it to God. Only He can turn it around and make it beautiful. How amazing is that-what is so ugly to us can be made so radiant by Him. A past of lies and deception and darkness can turn into a life of honesty and truth and light. How much pain does it take to turn around? For some people its so unbearable its the only way they know how to function. For those of us who have found a way out of this black hole, we are CALLED to go and help the ones stuck. God brings us through things so we can comfort others the way He comforted us (2 Corinthians 1:4).

This has been laid heavy on my heart so if you’re reading it and its time to come clean then stop making excuses and DO IT. You will never find what you’re looking for until you do. If you’ve come clean and you’re in the process of healing then know you are on your way to finding a life better than you could ever have imagined. Hold on to HOPE and know that FREEDOM is around the corner. And most importantly STAY HONEST. If God’s brought you through some tough times but you haven’t opened up about it, NOW is the time. Pray for Him to bring you someone you can help and encourage because of what you have been through.
